Chilen is the combination of Chilo and Helen. Chilen was establishedway back in 1984 by Chilo James Delator a native of Buanoy Balamban, Cebu. Because of early marriage at the age of 22, he ventured into the chicharon business to earn a living. Due to a limited capital to fund the business, the young Chilo, a seaman by profession decided to go on board a foreign-going vessel for five years after which suffecient capital was saved to relaunch the company. It was the beginning of gradual growth of the Chilen Chicharon. As a young entrepenuer, Chilo made many changes of the cooking techniques. It was him who introduces the first less-fat, less cholesterol cicharon. Chilen's line of products are different from the other known chicharon brands, specifically witht the introduction of beef and chickenchicharon. Then came the mid-90's when he introduced to the market the first bite-size chicharon, flavored chicharon and the ready-to-cook pellets. Just recently, you can notice some chicharon makers are following these techniques. Chilen was the pioneer brand of the bite size flavored chicharon and ready to cook pellets. Although Chilen Chicharon introduced these products first, they were not too well noticed by the buying public for lack of strategic brand marketing. CHILLENITOS was thereafter born to put identity to the Chilen bite-size chicharon. Chilenitos is the first and original bite-size chicharones. Chilo James Delator was also the first to introduce the famous TUNA CHICHARON to serve to those customers who are heath- or diet conscious because tuna contains Omega 3 which is classified as good cholesterol. Just recently, Chilen has developed three different sauces namely Coco Vinegar, Sweet and Sour and Tartar Sauce, which are given to customers for free.
Chilen products is distributed to the different groceries and supermarkets in Cebu. They are also distributed to the different key cities all over the Philippines by Chilen authorized dealers. Chilen is in the process of franchising their products.
