In the early seventies, my mother, Mercedes "Chedette" Corazo, started designing and baking cakes for the birthdays and weddings of her friends. The reception of her creations was such that she decided to make a business out of her passion for baking and designing cakes. This was the birth of Chedz Designer Cakes. I literally grew up around an overwhelming volume of cakes and pastries, and when I was around ten, I told my mother, in a very serious tone, that she shouldn't even dare think about involving me in her business. Providence must have a sense of irony, because, among us five siblings, it was I who eventually discovered a passion for cake baking and decorating.

My mother is now in semi-retirement in the US, and she has handed over the business to me. I have fond memories of my mother showing albums and albums of her creations to couples preparing for marriage. The couples would get so excited in seeing cakes that complete their dream wedding. She would then design something unique based on the cakes they liked, the motif of the wedding and the couple's budget. With this blog, I hope to give the same service to our customers in the comfort of their own homes. I will be posting pictures of our cakes—cakes for weddings, debuts, birthdays, and for all those special days we wish to celebrate with a cake—and continue the tradition that my mother started more than thirty years ago.
